The curious name Pekoe comes from the Xiamen Chinese dialect. Peh Ho, which means white down, refers to the down-like white hairs covering the top buds and young leaves of tea bushes in early spring. Nowadays, Orange Pekoe or OP, is the industry term used to designate whole leaf South Asian black tea.
